Urban News Journal welcomes pitches that help general readers understand a specific feature of city life. Send proposals through the Contact page; concise, focused ideas are easier to assess than a full unsolicited draft.
What to pitch
We consider explainers, comparisons, background pieces, myth checks and practical observation guides about neighbourhoods, public space, city forms, movement or civic life. Each pitch should have one clear subject and a reason it remains useful beyond a news cycle.
Make the case
Describe the central question, the main point readers will take away and the structure you have in mind. Note the kinds of sources or examples the piece would need, and explain any limits or local context that could affect its usefulness.
Editorial fit
Use plain language, avoid unsupported generalisations and separate documented facts from your interpretation. We do not seek promotional copy, disguised advertising or claims that require readers to rely on unverified expertise.
Send a proposal
Use the Contact page and choose the editorial question option. Include a short outline and any relevant writing samples you are able to share. A proposal is not a promise of publication, and we may edit accepted work for clarity and length.
